Tebeka’s Legal Leadership Program

In 1998, there was one Ethiopian Israeli attorney. As of 2010, that number has grown to about 70, with another 120 Ethiopian Israeli students enrolled in law school. The aim of Tebeka’s Legal Leadership Program is to help Ethiopian Israeli law students and young attorneys excel in their study and practice of the law. The result is a talented cadre of exceptional young men and women who are dedicated to serving as leaders in their profession, ambassadors for their community, and representatives of the best and brightest in Israel.

Scholarships in Israel: Tebeka offers scholarships and living stipends to Ethiopian Israeli law students and interns to help them focus their full attention on their legal studies and professional development. Some scholarships are also given to outstanding Ethiopian Israeli students in other fields at the university level.

Scholarships Abroad: Tebeka offers scholarships to highly motivated Ethiopian Israeli attorneys and law students to study in the United States in preparation for pursuing an LLM.

Professional Training: Tebeka organizes a series of professional-training workshops and seminars throughout the year for Ethiopian Israeli attorneys, interns and law students.

Job Placements: Tebeka coordinates an annual job fair at the Israeli Bar Association’s headquarters in Tel Aviv that attracts leading law firms, government legal departments and in-house corporate counsel recruiters. Tebeka also maintains a database for communicating with the Ethiopian Israeli legal community about upcoming workshops, seminars, networking events and employment opportunities.

Tebeka’s Legal Leadership Program

Internships: Tebeka’s attorneys supervise a group of Ethiopian Israeli legal interns each year who receive hands-on training in the law by conducting intake support and research assistance for Tebeka’s legal aid clinics and legal advocacy projects.

Mentorships: Tebeka offers mentorship opportunities for Ethiopian Israeli law students in a program that pairs them with volunteer attorneys from leading law firms in Israel for a series of one-on-one sessions designed to hone their lawyering skills.
