Recently, a long-time pharmacy employee experienced a blatant racist incident while assisting a customer with her prescription. As he was helping her, she spoke to another customer and suddenly used the word **N** — a derogatory slur referring to Black people — loud enough for him to hear.
When he confronted her and asked, “Who did you call **N**?” she shamelessly replied, “I have nothing to hide. As far as I’m concerned, you are a **N**.” She repeated the slur again, showing no remorse, no attempt to apologize — fully aware of the humiliation she was inflicting.
Despite reporting the incident to his manager and being advised to file a civil complaint, he knew that would not be enough to restore his dignity. Feeling hurt and humiliated, he turned to Tebeka, determined not to remain silent in the face of racism.
