The Tebeka Association has filed an urgent petition with the Israeli Supreme Court today, February 17, 2025, challenging Rabbi Eliyahu Asouline’s candidacy for the Chief Rabbinate Council, as it previously did when he ran for the position of Rabbi of Hadera.
The association is committed to pursuing all available legal avenues with determination, driven by its dedication to the principles of justice, equality, and human rights. We will not stand by in the face of social injustices of this nature, which erode public trust in religious institutions and state authorities.
We are confident that the Supreme Court will thoroughly examine the issue and ensure that an individual with a history of serious misconduct and racist statements will not hold a high public office, particularly a rabbinical position, which demands integrity, public responsibility, and impeccable moral values.
